Dear BoldeReach,
Normally this time of year, we are writing to encourage you to join us for our Around the World with BoldeReach Gala in the fall. This funding cycle, our Gala is scheduled for the spring of 2012 in support of a wonderful organization, International Midwife Assistance (IMA). We are, however, requesting that you join us in October for a Sunday afternoon of fun and updates on our beneficiaries. See more info on these events below.
The Gala schedule is giving BoldeReach time to focus on our future goals and we look forward to telling you more about our plans for 2012 and beyond.
Take a moment to read about IMA, our past beneficiaries and other exciting BoldeReach activities. Sincerely, The BoldeReach Board of Directors |

International Midwife Assistance (IMA)
Working to Address Issues of Maternal Health in Uganda
BoldeReach has chosen International Midwife Assistance as their beneficiary for 2011/2012.
IMA offers general medical care, prenatal, vaccinations, family planning services and a birth center to help displaced persons in the Teso region of Uganda. Through these services, women receive the assistance they need to help ensure safe, healthy pregnancies. IMA trains local Ugandans to staff the clinic from both a medical and business perspective.
The IMA birth center in Soroti, Uganda provides special assistance to women during childbirth, ensuring safe delivery and quick and efficient response to complications during childbirth. The clinic staff also conducts weekly mobile outreach clinics to remote rural areas.
Birth statistics overwhelmingly show that assisted births produce dramatically more positive outcomes for both mother and baby. Feasible low-cost health interventions are all that is needed to save countless lives of women and babies.
International Midwife Assistance is a 501(c)(3) non-profit.

Updates on Past BoldeReach Beneficiaries Bicycles for Humanity Colorado (B4H)
2010 BoldeReach Beneficiary
Excitement began early in 2011, with the initial BoldeReach-funded bike shop project shipping out on January 30th. Packed with 400 bikes bound for Ndola, Zambia, this shipment marked an expansion into a new country working with a new partner, Zambikes. While waiting for the bikes, B4H partner ZamBikes trained the new bike shop mechanics - 4 women and 2 men. The most common problem for each of the new mechanics was learning the uses for all the different tools needed for bike repair. Each mechanic was able to master the tools and now all six are able to successfully build and repair bicycles.
BoldeReach raised enough funds to open 6 new bike shops and Bicycles for Humanity Colorado plans to ship out over 1,500 bikes in 2011...and more in 2012!

B4H is holding their own Gala this fall. For more information, check their website: www.b4hcolorado.org.
Global Education Fund (GEF) 2009 BoldeReach Beneficiary
GEF continues to work with the Kenyan Leadership Program funded by BoldeReach. Students served by the GEF Kenya Leadership Program increased to 102 in 2011. Nineteen GEF scholars (12 girls / 7 boys) graduated from secondary school in 2010; bringing the total graduates of the program to 32. Most were the first in their family to achieve this milestone. Three GEF scholars have excelled on their national exams and qualify for subsidized government scholarships at public universities. Less than 5% of high school students who take the exams reach this level. Four post-high school grants were awarded to GEF Kenya alumni for vocational training.
GEF recruited a prestigious Board of Advisors in Kenya to guide future growth, grew their partnership with Carolina for Kibera to include a library to serve the hundreds of youth in the Kibera slum in Kenya, held a Career Fair for high school seniors in Nairobi and partnered with SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) to host a business plan competition. Also this year, GEF traveled to Bangalore and met with local education experts to discuss expansion of the GEF program to India.

BoldeReach Continues Reaching
Conversations
Don't miss our upcoming community Conversations series!
September - lunch at City Club with a former FBI agent speaking about human trafficking in our backyard.
October - a seminar on Alternate Giving options for the holidays.
November - a book club discussion on 'Half the Sky' by NYT reporters Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn. Half the Sky lays out an agenda for the world's women to address three major abuses: sex trafficking and forced prostitution; gender-based violence including honor killings and mass rape; maternal mortality, which needlessly claims one woman per minute.
Look for invitations with details soon!
Other 'Reaches'
BoldeReach is actively searching for women in other communities who would like to start a 'Reach' organization to raise funds and support nonprofits in their community. A guidebook has been created and can be obtained by making a request to info@boldereach.org. Please let any friend or relatives who might be interested know about this opportunity!
BoldeReach SCOREs BoldeReach has engaged with SCORE Denver for a special series of consulting sessions to coach us on assessing our strengths and weaknesses, applying our capacities for greatest impact, exploring the potential of collaborations/partnerships and creating our three year plan. BoldeReach is very excited about this next step in our evolution as an organization. |
